Milpas Altas

These women came to our office acompanied by the major of their village, after they read a newspaper article about the work of Kiej de los Bosques. They brought all their products and were certain that if we could sell what they did, their lives would be resolved.

In that opportunity, we realized that their potential and business vision were beyond their products, and some months later, we started working with them through a project funded by the Norewian Embassy in Guatemala. In February 09, they became a Wakami group and started to produce The Earth Bracelets. When we went to propose this business to them, Doña Loida, the group leader said to her group:

“We have been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time, now every one of us has to decide if she wants to become responsible of producing these bracelets, because if one of us fails, the whole group is going to be hurt, so ladies, please let’s hear what you think”.

All of them were eager to learn the new designs, and today, their group has grown from 8 women to 30!
